The RED Directive (which replaced the previous R&TTE Directive) applies to electrical/electronic products that intentionally emit and/or receive radio waves for radiocommunication and/or radiodetermination purposes. In order to be placed on the EU market, radio equipment must meet a number of requirements set out in the RED Directive 2014/53/EU. The manufacturer or the importer (in case of radio equipment produced in non-European countries) is responsible for the marketing within the European Union of equipment that complies with the RED Directive, compliance which is demonstrated by the CE marking.
Nowadays, everyday life is pervaded by equipment and devices using radio technology (from television to detection systems, from home automation to new 4.0 technologies). Directive 2014/53/EU provides a range of essential requirements in order to avoid mutual damaging interference between different devices and to ensure their efficient and safe functioning. These requirements are related to:
- electrical safety,
- electromagnetic compatibility,
- effective use of the radio spectrum.
As a Notified Body, Ente Certificazione Macchine is authorized to carry out, as a third party, the conformity assessment procedures according to Directive 2014/53/EU, verifying the compliance with the essential requirements established by the Directive. As Testing Laboratory, ECM can also perform tests and trials on radio equipment, with issue of test reports.
