This new directive introduces essential requirements for certain categories of radio equipment, aimed at limiting the fragmentation of charging interfaces for mobile phones and similar devices. In this context, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=OJ:C_202402997\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commission Notice &#8211; Guidance for the interpretation of the Common Charger Directive<\/a><\/strong> becomes a key tool to ensure a uniform understanding of the new provisions.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:23px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-175d38cd26be9f6b5c93dec308100822\" style=\"color:#085f9b\"><strong>THE COMMISSION NOTICE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>Indeed, the Commission\u2019s guidance document aims to clarify the new procedures introduced by the directive on the standardized charger, facilitating its application. It is addressed to a wide audience, including market surveillance authorities, industry and consumer associations, manufacturers, importers, distributors, and conformity assessment bodies.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:23px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8ee7f43503216f0e2a18c4cd50dd16cd\" style=\"color:#085f9b\"><strong>ENTRY INTO FORCE AND SCOPE OF APPLICATION<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>The directive on the<strong> common charger<\/strong> came into force on 28 December 2022, and its provisions will be applied <strong>from 28 December 2024<\/strong>, until 28 April 2026, depending on the category or class of equipment. Key points include:<\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Scope of application:<\/strong> new rules apply to a wide range of devices, including mobile phones, tablets, cameras, headphones and earbuds, videogame consoles, e-readers, portable speakers, keyboards and mice, portable navigation systems, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Harmonized charging receptacle and requirements<\/strong>: radio equipment must be equipped with a harmonized charging receptacle, specifically a USB-C receptacle, to reduce the fragmentation of charging interfaces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unbundling the sale of the charging device <\/strong>from the sale of the electronic device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Improved information for end-users\/consumers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-156cbcf90010f411b55f4614b3aa0a25\" style=\"color:#085f9b\"><strong>THE ECM\u2019SERVICES FOR RADIO EQUIPMENT<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>Therefore, this regulatory framework represents a significant step forward towards the harmonization of charging technologies for radio equipment in the European Union. <strong>Ente Certificazione Macchine<\/strong> \u2013 Notified Body 1282 for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entecerma.it\/en\/activities\/certifications\/product-and-service\/directive-2014-53-ue-radio-equipment-directive-red\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Directive 2014\/53\/EU<\/a> (RED) \u2013 is available to verify compliance with the new regulatory requirements.
