Workplace Safety in Emilia-Romagna: CGIL Sounds the Alarm over 2025 Data

2 March 2026

Data presented by the CGIL Emilia-Romagna Observatory paints a dramatic picture for 2025: the region remains a territory where the ‘silent slaughter’ shows no signs of stopping. According to provisional INAIL figures, there were 76,818 reported workplace accidents last year, marking a 1.3% increase compared to 2024. Even more concerning is the data on occupational diseases, which saw a 7.5% surge with 8,106 reported cases.

The death toll is devastating: 92 workplace fatalities in a single year, an average of about eight deaths per month. A figure that, as highlighted by the union, is unfortunately set to rise in the final consolidated data, which will include cases currently under investigation. Analyzing the sectors, the agro-industry holds the grim record with 20 fatal accidents, followed by transport and warehousing (13) and construction (8).

In this increasingly critical scenario, Ente Certificazione Macchine (ECM) stands as a qualified partner to support companies in achieving and maintaining machinery compliance. The objective is clear: to actively contribute to risk reduction and to safeguarding workers’ lives.

The prevention of mechanical and technological accidents involves targeted areas of intervention:

Inspections and Maintenance: Periodic checks to prevent sudden failures or operational anomalies.

Machinery Certification: Verification of compliance with national and European standards.

Testing and Practical Trials: Instrumental analysis to test the actual reliability of safety systems.
