On the occasion of May 1st, 2025, we want to encourage a necessary reflection on workplace safety and accident prevention.
Labor Day, celebrated every May 1st, is an important occasion to recognize the value of the people who contribute each day, through their dedication, to the economic and social growth of the country. But it is also the right time to seriously and concretely reflect on workplace safety, accident prevention, and the need to promote safer environments and behaviors.
In a context still marked by alarming data, it is essential that institutions, companies and social partners renew their commitment to more decisive and responsible action. Prevention can no longer be postponed: it must become a shared priority.
In 2025, according to preliminary data from INAIL released by Anmil on the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, work-related accidents in Italy continue to be an emergency. In the first two months of the year, 138 fatal accident reports were registered – an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2024.
Overall, there were 89,556 accident reports in the first two months (down slightly from 2024), but occupational diseases are growing to 14,917 cases (+5.8%). On an annual basis, 2024 ended with 1,090 work-related fatalities (+4.5%), 589,571 total injuries (+0.7%) and 88,499 occupational disease reports (+21.6%). [Inail data]
These are numbers we cannot ignore. And the tragic news of the fatal accident that occurred a few days ago in a marble quarry in Carrara is just the latest episode that underscores how workplace safety remains an urgent and current problem that must be addressed with ongoing commitment.
This May 1st, 2025, it is essential to refocus on safety in the workplace and accident prevention – not only as a regulatory obligation, but as a value-based and responsible choice. At Ente Certificazione Macchine, safety is not just compliance with standards, but an essential condition for an efficient, ethical, and sustainable work environment where every worker can feel protected.
For nearly thirty years, Ente Certificazione Macchine has been supporting companies on their journey toward safer workplaces through compliance and safety checks on equipment, machinery, and products.
