In the framework of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), held on May 15, 2026, between ECM – Ente Certificazione Macchine and KoTHEA (Korea Total Healthcare Ecosystem Association), we continue to gather testimonials from the institutions and key partners supporting this important strategic bridge between Italy and South Korea.
Today we feature the contribution of Dr. Gianluca Baldoni (Internationalization of the regional production system – Attractiveness, Internationalization and Research Sector, Export and Trade Fair System Area of the Emilia-Romagna Region), who took part in the institutional event held in the presence of local authorities and the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Milan.
The agreement signed between ECM and KoTHEA is part of a process to consolidate relations between the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Republic of Korea—a commercial and technological partner that represents a fundamental benchmark in East Asia, a dynamic area central to international trade.
This bond has deep roots that are constantly nurtured. As Dr. Baldoni pointed out, back in March 2024, a business and scientific delegation from Emilia-Romagna, led by the Regional President and the Regional Councilor for Economic Development Vincenzo Colla, visited South Korea to explore its rich research and innovation ecosystem. That mission bore concrete fruit, including the memorandum signed by ARTER (the regional agency for technological development) with Daejeon Technopark and Diva to support start-ups, which complements the long-standing framework agreements already active between the region’s universities and leading Korean universities.
In a favorable macroeconomic context—driven by the EU-South Korea Free Trade Agreement and the initiatives of the Italian Government, which in 2024 celebrated 140 years of diplomatic relations with the Asian country—the cooperation between ECM and KoTHEA takes on crucial significance.
“It is in light of this context of growing openness between our countries that the collaboration launched today between ECM and KoTHEA for product certification takes on a particular value. It represents a crucial stepping stone for promoting trade, especially in a key sector for our region such as Life Sciences.”
The synergy between ECM’s certification expertise and its Korean partners therefore acts as a strategic accelerator for local businesses, reducing technical barriers and fostering access to high-tech, high-value markets.
The Emilia-Romagna Region, through Dr. Gianluca Baldoni, expressed its strong commendation to ECM and KoTHEA for organizing the event and for the strategic vision demonstrated. The meeting was attended by key institutional figures, including the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Milan, the President of the Legislative Assembly of the Emilia-Romagna Region Maurizio Fabbri, and the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Valsamoggia, reflecting the collective support and commitment of the local community to this initiative.
The final wish is for a fruitful and synergistic collaboration, capable of translating today’s agreement into concrete opportunities for growth, innovation, and internationalization for the entire production and research system.
