THE NATIONAL CONTEXT: DATA FROM THE 2025 INAIL REPORT

At the national level, the overall picture is broken down into the following key points:

• Most at-risk sectors: Among the productive sectors recording the highest number of severe and fatal incidents, Construction, Manufacturing, and the Transportation and Storage sector remain the most critical, both nationally and in Emilia-Romagna.

• Total injury claims: In 2025, total workplace injury claims reached approximately 600,000 (an increase of 1.2% compared to the previous year). Of these, about 519,000 involved workers (+0.8%) and 81,000 involved students (+3.4%).

• Workplace fatalities: Total reported fatal cases stood at 1,198 (a slight drop of 3.3% compared to 1,239 the previous year). Among workers alone, 1,189 deaths were recorded. While on-the-job fatalities experienced a minor decline, commuting accidents remained virtually unchanged, accounting for a significant share of the total tragedies.

• Record high for occupational diseases: The most striking figure concerns reported work-related illnesses, which reached a record 98,312 (+11.3% compared to 2024), marking an all-time high. The increase—partly explained by a greater tendency to report cases and the uncovering of unreported illnesses—is driven primarily by musculoskeletal disorders and osteoarticular conditions.

The 2025 data shows that the road to achieving zero workplace deaths and injuries is still long.
